Introduction to Electronics
Build the foundational electronics knowledge every maker, hardware builder, and robotics learner needs — circuits, components, breadboarding, and working safely with hardware.
About This Course
Electronics is the foundation of everything in hardware — from the simplest LED circuit to the most complex robotics platform. This course builds that foundation from scratch, in plain language, with practical hands-on activities throughout.
We cover the core principles — voltage, current, resistance, and Ohm's Law — then work through the essential components every electronics builder needs to know: resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits. You'll learn how to prototype safely on a breadboard, use a multimeter, and read a schematic.
The course finishes with a bridge into microcontroller-based development — preparing you for the Introduction to Autonomous Robotics course or any Arduino / Raspberry Pi project you want to tackle next.
You'll Need
- •A basic electronics kit (breadboard, resistors, LEDs, wire)
- •A multimeter (inexpensive models work fine)
- •No prior electronics experience required
Who This Course Is For
Complete beginners to electronics
You've never built a circuit before and want a clear, practical introduction before you start working with hardware.
Robotics learners
You want to get into robotics with Arduino but need to understand the electronics layer before you start connecting components.
Makers and hardware builders
You enjoy building things and want a solid theoretical foundation to back up your hands-on experimentation.
What You'll Learn
Electricity Fundamentals
Voltage, current, resistance, and Ohm's Law — the concepts that underpin all electronics.
Core Components
Resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and ICs — how each component behaves and when to use it.
Breadboarding & Prototyping
Build and test circuits safely on a breadboard before committing to a final design.
Multimeter Basics
Measure voltage, current, and resistance in real circuits and use readings to diagnose problems.
Circuit Schematics
Read and interpret standard circuit diagrams — the shared language of electronics.
Microcontroller Foundations
Understand digital vs. analog signals, sensors, and actuators in preparation for Arduino and robotics work.
